Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SME grading, cross-border business credit, verification and compliance.

Cross-Border Business Credit

How can an SME operating in Zimbabwe, but banking in South Africa, access credit?

SMEs can access credit through our cross-border business credit framework. You upload verified proof of your South African banking activity and your Zimbabwe operations. Your profile is verified and scored, then presented to South African lenders and investors who assess whether your business is creditworthy.

Why is a South African bank account important for credit in Zimbabwe?

A South African bank account provides a reliable, hard-currency financial trail that South African lenders and investors can trust. Combined with verified Zimbabwe operations, it turns a cross-border gap into a bankable, investable opportunity.

What documents do I need to upload to access cross-border credit?

You generally upload South African business bank statements, Zimbabwe operating and trade records, audited or management financial statements, ZIMRA tax clearance, SARS compliance status, company registration (CIPC or ZIDA) and director and ownership proof.

How do lenders and investors verify an SME before funding?

Lenders and investors review a verified profile that includes authenticated banking statements, financials, tax and compliance documents. They can also assess an independent credit score and SME grade generated from your data, and monitor your portfolio over time.

SME Grading

What is SME grading?

SME grading is an industry-agnostic rating of a business based on financial strength, operational capacity, compliance status and track record. It gives lenders, partners and investors a standardised way to assess an SME's reliability.

Which industries can be graded?

Our universal grading ladder applies to all industries, including construction and engineering, manufacturing, agriculture, ICT, retail, transport, hospitality and professional services.

Verification & Compliance

What compliance documents do SMEs need in South Africa and Zimbabwe?

In South Africa this typically includes CIPC registration, SARS tax compliance, CIDB grading and B-BBEE. In Zimbabwe it includes ZIDA licensing, ZIMRA tax clearance, PRAZ registration and NSSA compliance. Our verification services confirm your standing across these requirements.

How long does verification take?

The time depends on the completeness of the documents you submit and the number of checks required. Once your documents are submitted, our office reviews, verifies and approves them, and you can track the status of each document.

How does SME Veritas protect my data?

We handle data in line with POPIA and GDPR requirements, using encrypted document storage and full audit trails for all verifications. Your uploaded documents are only shared with authorised lenders and investors through the platform.
